Principal's Corner

Hello.

I’m Wanda Burton the new principal at Page Middle School.  I am not new to Page though.  I have lived in Page since October 1993.  I am married and have three adult children and many grandchildren that all went through the PUSD school system.  I taught 1st grade, 3rd grade, ELL, Talent and Gifted (TAG) afterschool enrichment, and served Page Unified School District in many committee settings and sports settings.

I have been gone the last five years as a Principal and growing my professional knowledge.  I was the principal for Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Centers, Mesa TLC and Durango, and then at Red Mesa Unified School District for Red Mesa Elementary and Round Rock Elementary and Junior High.  For the last three years I was principal at Sacaton Elementary School.  I have always been part of the “turn-around” team focusing on student learning.  Developing sustainable changes that impact student learning to close the achievement gap and bring fun back to the fundamentals of education.  This year in PMS we are focused on building relationships with students to support not just the academic impact of COVID-19, but caring for the whole child.  With good trusting relationships we can move our students faster in accelerating learning.

We pre-teach AZ standards in 3rd period skills class to evoke the academic vocabulary students need to perform at grade level in their core content areas.
